Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in London.

The Olympic champion finished her two-lap campaign with a triumph at the women-only Athlos meet in New York on Friday night.

{The current Olympic gold medallist, who earned third place at the World Championships recently, excelled in an impressive victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) claimed third.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," said the 23-year-old.

"The environment at the event is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."

The female-exclusive meet packed Icahn Stadium in its second year, introducing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was present to award the winners with their crowns.

Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, secured the 100m and 200m double.
